- Meeting Overview:
The Revere License Commission approved several applications for special one-day licenses and addressed community concerns at their June 26th, 2024, meeting. The approved applications included permits for cultural events, entertainment licenses for local businesses, and adjustments to restaurant operations. The commission also agreed to address noise and disturbance complaints regarding two local restaurants at their next meeting.
The most notable applications approved were for events that reflect the cultural vibrancy of Revere. The Neighborhood Developers were granted a one-day entertainment license for an annual festival at Sandler Square celebrating the local community with dance, music, and food from local businesses. Similarly, the Revere Beach Partnership received approval for three special one-day malt and wine licenses for a beer garden during the renowned international sand sculpting festival, as well as a special one-day all-alcohol license for a VIP party associated with the event. Additionally, the American Legion Post 61 secured six one-day licenses for malt, wine, and common victualler to host Sunday night concerts at Veterans Memorial Park.
The commission also approved Diana Cardona’s application for a cultural event celebrating Colombian Independence Day, anticipated to draw 120 attendees. Likewise, Chocolaf LLC obtained an entertainment license for the grand opening of the C Too store, with an expected attendance of 100 people.
An application for outdoor seating for an all-alcohol restaurant license was discussed, with concerns raised about the closing time and noise. The commission supported earlier closing hours and emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean outdoor seating area. This led to the approval with a condition for earlier closure.
Amid the approvals, the commission tackled the issue of operating hours for a fast-food restaurant serving Colombian food. After debate and input from the public and the Mayor’s office, the commission set the restaurant’s operating hours to 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, allowing for a potential revisit of the hours based on operational feedback.
Additionally, the commission debated the proposed operating hours for a common victualler license for a restaurant on Beach Street, ultimately approving the application with the suggestion of a trial period for the Sunday hours.
Concerns about noise and disturbances led to the commission’s decision to summon the managers or owners of Lupita and La Henda for a discussion at the next meeting in July. The commission received a notification from the Massachusetts Alcohol Beverage Control Commission regarding the approval of outdoor seating for another local restaurant.
