The Superintendent’s presentation of goals for the next school year was comprehensive, with an emphasis on creating career and college readiness pathways. The development of a community engagement strategy for district reconfiguration plans and the expansion of the preschool program over the next five years were also highlighted as critical objectives. The Superintendent emphasized the need for community involvement in these initiatives and the potential impact on the district’s educational landscape.

The results of the community survey revealed strong support for creating an elementary-centered culture at Lawrence Intermediate School, with 69% of respondents advocating for this approach. For sixth graders, the majority of respondents desired a dedicated wing and improvements to cafeteria and gym spaces.

Further discussions based on the survey findings led to the board’s recognition of the need to foster a community feel within all school buildings, dedicate wings for younger students, and provide developmentally appropriate learning spaces. Modernized classrooms and specialized instruction were also noted as essential for academic focus and success.

In addressing staff vacancies, the Personnel Committee reported on open positions for social workers, special education staff, music teachers, and guidance counselors. The committee praised the district’s ability to attract high-quality staff and stressed the continuous pursuit of recruiting a diverse workforce. Several policies related to personnel matters were reviewed during the meeting.

The Office of Instructional Services presented its report, focusing on ensuring equitable access to instruction and programming. The report included plans to refine academic support, dual enrollment programs, and assistance for multilingual students. A new director of student achievement, equity, and opportunity was welcomed, and ongoing initiatives such as the Princeton University Prep program were discussed.

The post-graduation plans of students were a topic of considerable interest, with many seniors opting for various educational and vocational paths.

Financial matters were also addressed, with the finance committee updating on contracts, the Genesis system for attendance, school improvement projects, and new supplemental insurance benefits for employees. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the upcoming referendum, which includes a detailed timeline and consideration of the district’s financial position to support the project.

The meeting concluded with the authorization of various action items, including personnel appointments, clearances, and resignations, as well as the purchase of science kits. The board then entered an executive session to complete the superintendent’s evaluation.
