- Meeting Overview:
In Littleton, the Permanent Municipal Building Committee met to address ongoing construction projects, particularly focusing on progress at the local high school, a new Senior Center, and the Indian Hill school project.
Top priority was given to the construction of the new Senior Center, which has reached about 30% of its budget with over $17 million committed. The committee reviewed a physical mockup that included a detailed presentation of the sheathing, window, flashing, and stone base that will encircle the building’s perimeter. The mockup served as a tangible representation to assist in visualizing the final product. Discussions covered the choices of stones, grout, and the necessity for architectural input. Furthermore, the committee went over the construction progress and upcoming schedule, highlighting critical phases such as the installation of metal decking and shear studs, and the commencement of rough mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler (MEPS) systems. The committee also reviewed the financial state of the project, including potential credits and contingencies.
The Litton High School roof closeout was another agenda item. Final documentation from the roofing contractor was received. The committee focused on finishing the billing process, a sign that the high school roof project is approaching its conclusion.
The Indian Hill school project also saw discussion. The committee noted that the Board of Health had completed the final check for the building permit, and the contractor’s plans for the exterior work were underway. The project’s administrative updates were complemented with a draft schedule outlining the anticipated progress.
In addition to project updates, the committee discussed a change order review meeting for the Senior Center and the potential change orders themselves. Concerns were raised about temporary lighting at the construction site and the possibility of complaints from neighbors.
The Builder’s risk policy for the building projects was a key financial discussion point. The committee also benefited from the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) assistance in clearing vegetation to facilitate the exterior work on a building project.
A structural challenge was identified during an initial walkthrough, which revealed the removal of a granite structural post in the basement of an unspecified project. The need for new structural footings and pads was discussed. Coordination of electrical and security work was also on the agenda, alongside a query about display signage strategy and materials for the roof lining.
The police station project briefly entered the spotlight due to moisture problems within the building. The committee planned to contact the owners of the companies involved for explanations and recommendations, illustrating proactive measures in response to building issues.
As the meeting concluded, members provided input, expressing satisfaction with the overall progress of the projects. The adjournment followed this positive note.
