- Meeting Overview:
The Franklin Township Public Library Board of Trustees addressed issues regarding ongoing construction complications and approved a substantial salary increase for the Library Director during their latest meeting conducted via Zoom. The Board also received a resignation letter from a long-standing trustee, Iris Kizling, effective July 1st, 2024.
One item discussed was the problematic construction of the gallery roof. Despite numerous meetings and assurances, the construction crew repeatedly failed to place the protective tarp properly, resulting in water damage to the building during rainstorms. An emergency meeting with the architect and construction company representatives led to a “clearing of the air,” but skepticism remains as to whether the issue will be resolved promptly. The Board continues to monitor the situation closely.
In financial matters, the Library is performing well, with the overall budget execution at 81.65% and the Franklin Park Branch at 89.82%. There were no outstanding issues, and the financial report was set to be recorded in the official records.
Another topic was the approval of an increase in salary for the Library Director, January Adams. After returning from an executive session, the Board voted to raise Adams’ salary to $151,200 for the year beginning July 1st, 2024. The motion was unanimously approved.
The Board also honored Iris Kizling, who tendered her resignation after 14 years of service. The Board discussed commemorating her contributions with a plaque, with members volunteering to explore options for its design and procurement.
Mayor Phillip Kramer initiated a discussion on the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at the southern branch. The Board agreed to move forward with the plan, although specifics such as the type and size of the charger are yet to be determined.
Lastly, the Board considered a proposal to adjust the Library’s vacation policy to be more in line with local government workers, specifically after 20 years of service. The proposal was tabled for further study and will be revisited in the next meeting scheduled for August 28th, 2024.
