- Meeting Overview:
The Acushnet Board of Selectmen approved two significant petitions during their recent meeting: the construction of a pavilion on Mario Correa’s property and the establishment of an accessory apartment for Phil Vieira.
Mario successfully petitioned the board to construct a 12×16 foot pavilion in the rear of his property. Correa explained that his youngest son, a college graduate and talented individual, suggested the idea for family gatherings and leisure activities. The board members questioned Correa about potential disturbances, such as late-night events, to which Correa assured that the pavilion would not be used for loud parties. He mentioned that he had discussed the plans with his neighbors, who had no objections. The board approved the request, noting that there were no objections from any abutters present.
Phil Vieira’s petition for an accessory apartment on Boon Street was also approved. Represented by Attorney M. Long, Vieira sought permission to convert an existing garage into an accessory dwelling. The garage, originally renovated in 2013, is used by Vieira and his family during their visits from Florida. The accessory apartment would provide a bathroom and additional living space for Vieira’s use when he stays on the property. The board confirmed that the septic system could handle the additional bathroom and noted that Vieira had communicated with his neighbors, who supported the project. The board approved the petition, emphasizing that the addition would not alter the exterior of the garage.
In other business, the board discussed a complaint about a property where a truck reportedly made multiple trips in one day, causing disturbance to a neighbor. The board decided to table the discussion until more information could be obtained from relevant parties.
