In a ceremony, the committee recognized the achievements of the fourth graders, who were awarded various certificates for their accomplishments in music, physical education, and art. Teachers took turns calling up students to receive their awards, with applause and cheers from the audience. The students also performed “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman, led by their music teacher, to conclude the ceremony. This performance highlighted the students’ dedication and the sense of community fostered at East Taunton Elementary.

A particularly notable moment occurred when the committee honored Mr. Richie, a beloved custodian who is transitioning to the Alternative High School as head custodian. The fourth-grade team presented him with a gift, acknowledging his contributions and the positive impact he made on the school’s environment. Mr. Richie expressed his gratitude and shared his bittersweet feelings about leaving the school.

Superintendent John J. Cabral emphasized the importance of cherishing individuality and the unique strengths each student brings to the community. In his closing remarks, he quoted Rachel Marie Martin, “You are not a number… you are Priceless,” encouraging students to embrace their uniqueness as they move forward.

The meeting also included routine end-of-year procedures, such as the distribution of DVDs of the ceremony for families to purchase. The committee ensured the safety and proper organization of the event by instructing families on the sign-out process for their children.
