Superintendent Matthew A. Perrapato reported that the school year began smoothly, attributing the success to the efforts of administration and staff. He highlighted the well-attended back-to-school nights at Washington School and the ongoing one for the middle school. Perrapato emphasized the significance of the school newsletters, which are issued twice a month, as a primary communication tool. He also announced that the next family engagement night is scheduled for October 10th.

The most notable announcement was the scheduled public presentation on October 17th regarding the new middle school. This presentation aims to inform the community about the current status, future plans, and next steps for the middle school project. The meeting will take place in the gym at 7 PM.

Business Administrator and Board Secretary John Gomez provided a report on summer projects and financial updates. He confirmed that most summer projects were completed on time, including the Chromebook refresh and food service preparations. Gomez also discussed the financial status, informing the board about the $32.8 million in funds received and the anticipated additional $5 million from the state. He plans to reassign expenses to the appropriate funds and return capital reserve funds by the end of September.

The board also heard updates from various committee representatives. The education committee highlighted the positive impact of professional development sessions and the integration of new educational tools and training programs. The finance committee echoed Gomez’s report, while the policy, transportation, and expansion committees did not have updates.
