A recommendation for a part-time hire was made to provide music instruction for three hours a day. Additionally, Dr. Fisicaro highlighted a gap in the district’s gifted and talented education program, which is mandated by state law. Andy Tagm, the school media specialist, is currently overseeing these responsibilities, with new identification processes for gifted students planned for January and May.

In an effort to involve students in governance, the board introduced student representatives Mor Kamas and Joe Shean. Both students expressed enthusiasm for their new roles and shared their involvement in various school activities. Kamas, who described Haddon Township as a second home, participates in field hockey, lacrosse, and the Hope Club. Shean, who is also active in multiple sports and clubs, noted his family’s longstanding connection to the school, with several brothers having graduated from Haddon High School.

The board also introduced an exchange student program, welcoming three students from Mexico, France, and Spain. The program aims to expand despite challenges in finding host families. The district’s certification to accept J1 and F1 students could potentially increase enrollment and state aid, as well as allow the collection of tuition from international students.

The meeting included a discussion on the turf installation process, focusing on product selection and timing. The timeline for implementation was emphasized as crucial.

During the finance and facilities section, a report was presented from a committee meeting earlier in the month. Topics included the ongoing wait for approval for a COPS grant, kindergarten section funding from Title II, and the finalization of negotiations for a three-year agreement with teachers. The report also highlighted completed projects from a recent referendum, including work at five elementary schools and replacements at the middle school.

Board members raised questions regarding agenda items such as a shared services agreement for the communications consortium and the use of buses for specific programs.
