Wallington Board of Education Greenlights Major Roofing Project and Reorganization for 2023-2024
- Meeting Overview:
The Wallington Board of Education has given its approval for a significant roofing project and a complete reorganization, in a meeting conducted on May 8, 2023 at the Wallington High School Lecture Hall. The meeting, led by President Nancy Maciag, tackled numerous issues related to the school district’s operations, governance, and facilities.
High on the list of priorities, the school board discussed a proposal for the construction monitoring of the high school roof project, entrusting Armm Architecture Associates with this task at a cost of $28,800. The roofing project, an essential facet of the district’s infrastructural improvement plan, is expected to commence on June 21, 2023, and wrap up by August 18, 2023.
Accompanying this infrastructural development, the board approved several reorganizational resolutions. This included approvals for the establishment of petty cash funds, various banking institutions as depositories for Board of Education funds, and the reiteration of operating policies. Official signatures for all accounts and documents of the Wallington Board of Education were granted to President Maciag, Board Secretary Jody Pietrowitz, Treasurer of School Monies Philip Nisonoff, and Finance Chairman Bobby Ristovski.
The board also made key appointments for the 2023-2024 school year. Notable appointments include Richard Cedzidlo reconfirmed as Board Attorney, PKF O’Connor Davies chosen as the School District Auditor, Dr. Martha Sliwowski as Medical Inspector – School Physician, and Philip Nisonoff retained as Treasurer of School Monies.
In terms of academic affairs, the Curriculum/Instruction Committee approved several academy programs and charters for the 2023-24 school year. This includes student participation in programs at the Bergen County Academy, Bergen County Technical High School, Bergen Arts & Science Charter School, and Hudson Arts & Science Charter School, among others. Moreover, the board confirmed the graduation requirements for the class of 2023-2024 and approved summer services from the high school guidance department and the Child Study Team.
The meeting also touched on financial matters. The board approved a list of transfers to prevent budget deficits, the request for funds for bill payment in June 2023, and the requisition for payment of school taxes. A Security Grant of $70,558.00 was also accepted by the board.
Additionally, the Student Body Activities Committee approved a resolution for Wallington High School to join the N.J.S.I.A.A. Interscholastic Athletic Program for the 2023-24 school year. Several fundraisers and a field trip were approved, incorporating a more holistic approach to student development and engagement.
The Wallington Board also discussed facility matters, noting the disrepair of a trailer at Gavlak School. An agreement to replace the trailer will necessitate costs for disconnection and reconnection of utilities. A suggestion was made to replace a damaged brick island at the high school with a fiberglass flag pole.
Among the final decisions made during the meeting was the approval of several renewal appointments for the upcoming school year. Renewed personnel include Jody Pietrowitz as School Administrator/Board Secretary District, Charles Vellis as Supervisor & Director of Athletics, and Barbara Sondej as Director of Curriculum and Testing.
