- Meeting Overview:
The Acushnet Board of Selectmen granted extensions for two significant construction projects during their meeting on September 24, 2024. These approvals provided developers with additional time to address delays caused by economic conditions and the pandemic.
The Board’s first decision was to extend a variance for a residential addition on Ol Vera Avenue. The applicant, Ryan Boer, explained that economic uncertainty, particularly fluctuating interest rates and the upcoming election, had delayed the project’s start. Initially approved on January 28, 2021, the variance was set to expire soon. The Board decided to grant an extension, effectively giving Boer two years from the original approval date to complete the project.
Following this, the Board considered a similar request from Vertex Towers LLC, represented by Francis Pry of Pry Law Associates. Vertex Towers sought a special permit and variance to construct a wireless communication tower on Quaker Lane, a project initially approved in April 2021. Supply chain issues and other pandemic-related disruptions had prevented the timely construction of the tower. The Board reviewed the details and, noting the lack of opposition and the project’s distance from residential areas, reapproved the application for another two years.
