He highlighted the concerning possibility of filling in part of Mirror Lake, emphasizing the environmental impact this could have, particularly on local wildlife such as blue herons. Furio encouraged residents to voice their concerns to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), as the developer had begun the application process with the DEP to pursue these developments. He illustrated his points with photographs of the area, including one of a blue heron, to underscore the ecological significance at risk.

Residents expressed their unease with the potential change in the area’s landscape and the implications it might have on local ecosystems and lifestyles.

Another resident brought up an urgent matter concerning safety on sidewalks, particularly the use of electric bikes. A tragic incident in Patterson, where a boy was killed after colliding with a vehicle while on an electric bike, was shared to underscore the dangers. The resident suggested that the council consider outlawing electric bikes on sidewalks and enforcing speed limits and safety gear requirements, drawing parallels to motorized vehicle regulations. The council was urged to prioritize pedestrian safety and consider measures to mitigate risks associated with electric bikes.

Infrastructure and recreational facilities were also topics of public inquiry. A resident requested the installation of sidewalks and curbs on Long Hill Road, citing erosion issues caused by heavy rain as a danger to children walking or biking. Furthermore, inquiries about the availability of pickleball courts followed the repurposing of a tennis court for the popular sport, reflecting residents’ interest in recreational developments.

In response to these concerns, the council also addressed several administrative and legislative matters. Amendments to local ordinances, such as the introduction of the 24 Code 950 Storm Water Control Ordinance, were discussed. These amendments included updates to stormwater management calculations based on state predictions of future storm intensities. An amendment to fire prevention fees for the outdoor market was introduced.
