Dr. Karen Chase shared that the district’s enrollment has increased by four students since the last meeting, and by 22 students compared to the previous year. This growth primarily occurred at Stony Brook School and Branchburg Central Middle School. The enrollment rise aligns with demographic projections, which anticipate stable trends in the coming years, though potential new housing developments could impact future numbers. Dr. Chase emphasized the importance of closely monitoring these trends to anticipate any possible effects on the school district.

In support of New Jersey’s anti-bullying legislation, the Branchburg schools participated in the “Week of Respect,” a statewide initiative to promote kindness and respect. Activities included assemblies and theme days focused on positive behavior, with significant involvement from counselors, teachers, and students. These events aimed to bolster a respectful and inclusive school environment.

The Board also discussed several policy updates, mainly involving wording revisions, and introduced tentative dates for homework-free nights to encourage family engagement and relaxation. Additionally, the district plans to assess school culture and climate using the Panorama survey platform and is implementing the Lifeline Suicide Prevention Program, with a parent information night planned to provide further details.

Personnel matters were also addressed, with the district filling 31 positions this year, though some vacancies remain, including instructional and lunchroom aides, and custodians. Efforts to recruit for these roles continue, with no current impact on students. The Board expressed gratitude for community support, acknowledging donations from local organizations, and approved several items, including shared services agreements and various service projects.
