- Meeting Overview:
The Littleton Permanent Municipal Building Committee’s recent meeting featured the approval of key security upgrades and substantial discussions about ongoing construction projects. The committee focused on financial allocations and design amendments to address both current and future needs of municipal infrastructure.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the discussion and approval of building security enhancements. The committee resolved to implement a range of security measures for municipal facilities, including the installation of fobs, cameras, and a server to be monitored at both the police station and Town Hall. This decision followed stakeholder meetings aimed at ensuring that the security systems met programmatic needs. The committee noted a budget overage due to these elective scope changes but emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach with contractors to mitigate potential issues. The measures were approved unanimously.
Another focal point of the meeting was the review of the Senior Center project’s progress. The committee was informed that the project remained on track for substantial completion by the second week of March. Notably, a contract with Nooba Security for a security system was approved, budgeted from a line item of $100,000, with the proposed contract costing $61,000. This decision highlighted the committee’s strategic planning to ensure both fiscal responsibility and adequate security measures. A scheduled tour of the Senior Center’s construction site was announced, allowing committee members to assess progress firsthand, with safety protocols such as PPE requirements in place.
The committee addressed various project adjustments, including the recommendation to proceed with electrical time and materials work due to changes in wall openings resulting from a reconfigured floor plan. The cost of this work, amounting to $36,948.85, was verified by site representatives. Additionally, a proposal for adding sidelights to the basement wall was discussed, intended to enhance natural light in the club room and improve visibility for staff monitoring activities. These adjustments were part of a broader strategy to improve the functionality and user experience in municipal buildings.
Concrete testing was another item on the agenda, managed through Classic’s contract to ensure project efficiency. This decision allowed surplus funds to be returned to the project’s contingency budget. A design amendment was also proposed to address persistent moisture issues in a building’s crawl space, with architectural firm LLB tasked with developing solutions such as air circulation improvements and damp-proofing. While there was some hesitance regarding immediate approval of this design amendment, the proposal was nonetheless presented as an essential step in maintaining the building’s integrity.
The committee also discussed the Indian Hill project, focusing on security enhancements with the installation of fobs on the building’s front door. The exterior painting of the building was completed, which was well-received as a morale booster for those involved in the project. Committee members anticipated further documentation and updates on November 13, which would include potential change orders and credits.
