The departure of a newly appointed part-time youth services staffer, who accepted a full-time position elsewhere, has prompted the library to reconsider its candidate pool. The library plans to reopen the hiring process in January to attract a broader range of applicants. In the interim, they will be posting a substitute library position to ensure adequate staffing, especially for weekend coverage.

With a budget surplus due to understaffing, the library plans to use funds to support operational needs without financial strain. This flexibility allows the library to maintain services and introduce additional staffing solutions as required. The board expressed optimism about the current financial standing and its potential benefits for library operations.

Another point of discussion was the library’s role in community outreach. Staff shared their experiences at the recent “Harest Fest,” which attracted approximately 200 participants and raised more funds than the previous year. Additionally, the library participated in a “trunk or treat” event, collaborating with neighboring libraries to engage with the community creatively.

Upcoming events were also on the agenda, including hosting the town holiday potluck, a budget-friendly gathering aimed at fostering a sense of community. The potluck is scheduled for the Thursday before the Christmas holiday, with plans in place to ensure it is a welcoming event for all town employees.
