He also pointed to the lack of available building lots as a missed opportunity for expanding the city’s tax base. Guring urged the council to consider an independent assessment to evaluate the future profitability of the golf course and to develop a clear plan for its financial management.

In response to the community’s concern about the golf course, the council introduced Parker Clar as the new Clubhouse Director and Mark Ho as the Clubhouse Assistant. Parker outlined his vision for the golf course, emphasizing a measured approach to the expansion to 18 holes. He also proposed initiatives to enhance community engagement, such as hosting an introductory night at the golf course and participating in local activities, which could potentially boost the golf course’s profile and profitability.

This donation was part of the city’s budget and was approved unanimously.

Community engagement was further highlighted through the annual “Mayor for a Day” contest, where fourth grader Eon Sil Sard presented his innovative ideas to the council. Eon’s proposals included developing a hockey stadium, organizing community festivals, and enhancing library activities. His participation was recognized with a $10 Pier buck and a certificate, with the mayor humorously commenting on Eon’s potential political future.

The council also reviewed the Pierz Library’s annual report, noting a 27% decrease in DVD circulation due to a change in checkout duration. However, overall library usage was reported to be on the rise.

Administrative matters included planning for a workshop on March 17, 2025, with topics such as establishing an emergency fund, planning road projects, updating meeting times, and revisiting the chicken ordinance. The council also renewed the Midco contract, noting a slight reduction in the amount due.

The meeting concluded with updates from the city administrator, including plans for the upcoming Boards of Appeal and Equalization meeting and a town hall meeting with Republican Isaac Schultz. The Pierz City audit was scheduled for the week, and preparations were underway for citywide garage sales and cleanup in May.
