- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Alpine Board of Education greenlit considerable tuition contracts for student placements, approved the hiring of new teaching staff, and discussed various financial motions and school policies. The meeting held on August 28, 2023, saw extensive deliberations on matters central to the education and well-being of Alpine students.
Leading the meeting’s decisions, the board approved a significant tuition placement for an Alpine student at the Northern Valley Regional High School District Board of Education for the 2023-2024 School Year. This placement, endorsed upon the Superintendent’s recommendation, comes with a tuition fee of $87,143.00. Similarly, Alpine students will also be placed at the Pascack Valley Regional High School District’s Park Academy Middle School Program with a tuition set at $75,550 for one student. Another noteworthy approval was for the placement of an Alpine student at Fusion Academy, with tuition pegged at $42,462.
Superintendent Maureen McCann updated the board on various operational matters. Highlighting the recruitment drive, she briefed members on the search for a 3rd-grade teacher, along with art and math teachers. Mrs. Krista Grinkin, Supervisor of Special Services, presented insights on ELL Reporting for the 2022-2023 academic year.
On the personnel front, significant decisions were made. The board approved the hiring of Anastasia Findanis as a Teacher with an annual salary of $82,254. They also greenlit Oleksii Tykhonchuk’s employment as a Part-Time custodian at $23 per hour and Isaac Andrade as a long-term Art Substitute Teacher at a daily rate of $175.
In addition to the significant tuition and staffing decisions, the board addressed various financial action items. Christine Lewis and Maria DiBiase moved for the approval of payroll and expenditures totaling over $500,000. They also confirmed that as of July 31, 2023, no major account had been over-expended and that sufficient funds were in place for the fiscal year. One of the substantial payments included applications for the Alpine School New Emergency Generator totaling $50,013.79.
Lastly, the board undertook the approval of the second reading of a vast range of school policies and regulations. Policies such as “No Child Left Behind” saw revisions, while others like “School Sponsored Publications” were abolished.
