Superintendent Mrs. Vietti remarked on the packed schedule, saying, “October is a very busy month.” Among the notable achievements, Mrs. Bear Jenkins flagged the 41% increase in students achieving top marks in geometry, terming it the “Cinderella story of geometry.” Furthermore, 5th graders showed a 14% boost in earning top scores in science.

Recent data demonstrates that females are beginning to outpace males in standardized testing. However, the board emphasized the continuous strive for parity across genders.

High school students were treated to visits from college representatives, exploring post-secondary opportunities. They also marked their homecoming with a dance and a football game against Hawthorne. In addition, the district has successfully incorporated the “Amplify” program for English Language Arts (ELA) for grades K to 2. At the same time, middle and high school content teachers have joined forces with Kiker, a company integrating Google Apps for Education, catering to digital learners’ needs.

The board, echoing Mrs. Vietti’s sentiment, emphasized the importance of relationships in education, saying, “you need to connect before you have curriculum.”

Safety was another point of discussion. The board highlighted a recent fire truck visit on October 10th, during which students learned about fire safety. They also underscored the smooth and commendable evacuation of Long Memorial School, during which over 300 students were seamlessly transferred to Smith School.

Looking ahead, the district is set for numerous engaging activities. The Parent Partnership Night is slated for October 18th, featuring sessions on various educational topics for parents. Sports, always a community rallying point, are also in full swing, with fall athletic teams vying for spots in the NJSIAA playoffs.

Furthermore, the Saddle Brook Education Foundation announced its digital “wathon” for October 27th. The district’s threat assessment team is also reviewing safety procedures within schools, with plans to launch a Google form for threat reporting.
