- Meeting Overview:
In the most recent Saddle Brook Town Council meeting, members addressed public concerns over a local cannabis dispensary and potential safety issues surrounding electric motorcycles and scooters. The council also discussed recent town events and public health awareness measures.
The council opened the floor to public comments, where resident Mr. Rodriguez expressed concerns about the presence and operation of a cannabis dispensary in Saddle Brook. He questioned the authority a third party might have in governing the town and urged the council to maintain firm oversight. In response to Mr. Rodriguez’s concerns, Mayor Robert D. White clarified that while the name of the dispensary had indeed changed, the business had not been sold. He assured the public that the dispensary had undergone rigorous state regulatory processes.
Mr. Rodriguez also highlighted safety issues related to electric motorcycles and scooters, pointing to reckless behavior by riders and their frequent neglect to wear helmets. This call for increased safety measures was taken up by the council, who discussed potential regulations for e-scooters and e-bikes to ensure pedestrian safety and regulate usage.
Further into the meeting, Mayor White acknowledged the need for increased police presence in the wake of potential problems associated with the cannabis stores on Route 46. He clarified, however, that a new Chief of Police could not be appointed until the retirement of the current Chief Ker.
In remembering local residents and service people, Mayor White proclaimed November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, addressing the importance of seeking medical assistance when something feels wrong. This sentiment was echoed by Councilman Andrew Cimiluca who shared a personal story about a woman who neglected her health, emphasizing the importance of regular medical check-ups.
Additionally, the council found celebrated the contribution and creativity of the town’s youth. Thomas Manle, a local resident, announced the winners of a Halloween decorating contest organized by the mayor’s youth group. He also mentioned the group’s upcoming events, including the installation of new officers, holiday decorating, tree lighting, and a holiday party. Manle also praised the young people for their assistance at the senior Halloween party and trunk retreat, where they decorated a car with a Barbie theme.
A council member also took the opportunity to express their concern about the United States getting involved in conflicts overseas. They encouraged the residents to exercise their right to vote responsibly.
