Melissa Olsson, the director of learning design and student engagement, reported on the school’s career and college pathways, which include technology engineering and design, business and entrepreneurship, and health and human services. Notably, 92% of recent graduates participated in these pathways, with 81% taking more than one course. These programs are developed in collaboration with industry partners to ensure alignment with workforce needs while allowing students to earn college credits.

The AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program was highlighted as a success, with students like Maya Archer sharing their transformative experiences. Archer, a junior, discussed how the program’s collaborative learning environment and personalized mentoring helped her improve academically and inspired her to consider a career in education. Another AVID teacher, Lisa Schwitzer, emphasized the program’s focus on empowering students through skills like collaboration and organization.

Wickland detailed recent student projects, such as the construction of a house and a shed, which provided practical experience and fostered community partnerships. Students like Kayen Sukup and Joseph shared their enthusiasm for the program, noting the valuable skills and knowledge gained, which opened new career possibilities in the trades sector.

Financial discussions were also on the agenda, with the board addressing the district’s long-term facilities maintenance plan. This plan, necessary for maintaining infrastructure, involves levying taxes to fund projects. The meeting included approval of a resolution to collect approximately $36,000 to support the Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District’s maintenance needs, with an estimated minimal impact on homeowners.

The board also approved the acceptance of gifts to the district, acknowledging contributions such as snack packs for teacher appreciation from the Emanuel Christian Center. This gesture, part of an ongoing tradition, was met with gratitude, emphasizing the community’s support for its educators.
