Sussex Wantage School Board Celebrates Long-Serving Educators’ Retirements
- Meeting Overview:
The Sussex Wantage School Board meeting was highlighted by the recognition of retiring educators who collectively dedicated decades of service to the district. The board also celebrated student achievements, discussed personnel and finance matters, and reviewed year-end activities.
At the forefront of the meeting was the acknowledgment of retiring staff members, whose contributions have shaped the educational environment of the Sussex Wantage School District. Among those honored was Miss Adrien White, who served as a teacher’s assistant for 26 years. Known for her versatility and nurturing approach, White adeptly engaged with students, particularly those facing behavioral challenges, through innovative activities like sports and yoga. Her retirement was met with deep appreciation, with hopes expressed that she might continue to support the district in some capacity.
Mrs. Diane Lingaro, a media specialist with over 25 years of service, was also commended for her dedication to fostering a love of reading among students. Her commitment to excellence and flexibility in addressing the needs of students and colleagues left a lasting impression. The board and community members applauded her unwavering dedication and expressed wishes for a joyous and relaxing retirement.
Similarly, Mrs. Olivera was recognized for her passionate commitment to teaching health standards and life skills. With over 25 years in the district, she inspired strong character development in students, setting high expectations that extended learning beyond the classroom. Her influence was celebrated by the audience, with recognition of the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
In addition to celebrating retirees, Superintendent Michael Gall highlighted students of the month from May and June. Logan Ganley, a sixth-grade student, was praised for his academic excellence and empathy, while Matthew Levista was noted for his artistic talent and positivity. Seventh-grade students Damen Shipman and Gabby Lori were recognized for their active class participation and balance of academics with extracurricular pursuits. Eighth graders Matteo Mariner and Lucy Anderson were also honored for their dedication and growth, particularly in areas like reading and writing.
The board meeting continued with general announcements, including expressions of gratitude for those involved in end-of-year activities such as the Sussex Middle School graduation and the pre-K moving-up ceremony. The contributions of Mrs. Space and Mr. Morocco were particularly acknowledged during this segment.
During the audience remarks, Laura Aradi, advisor of the literary magazine club, presented the 25th anniversary edition of the magazine to the board. Aradi emphasized the importance of the publication as an outlet for student expression, thanking the board for its support, which enabled 44 students and staff to share their creative works.
In financial matters, the board secretary certified compliance, ensuring no accounts exceeded appropriations as of May 31, 2025. This certification was followed by the approval of minutes from previous meetings, which proceeded without debate.
The board entered an executive session to discuss personnel and legal matters, reconvening after approximately 30 minutes to continue with agenda items. Personnel matters were discussed briefly, with all items receiving unanimous approval. In the finance section, motions were also swiftly approved without opposition.
As the meeting progressed into new business, no additional items were raised for discussion. The second audience remarks session featured Lisa Farog, president of the Sussex One Education Association, who recapped the year’s charitable contributions. Farog detailed initiatives funded through grant writing, including notable donations for a reading night, a family bingo night, and local food pantries.
