Acushnet Board of Selectmen Opts for Badge Quest in Police Assessment, Increases Water and Sewer Rates
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Acushnet Board of Selectmen meeting, a decision was made to select Badge Quest as the service provider for conducting assessment centers for the town’s police chief and deputy chief positions. This decision followed a comparative analysis of submissions from potential vendors. Badge Quest’s proposal amounted to $5,944 for five candidates, with a potential increase to $7,944 for six to ten candidates.
In addition to the police assessment topic, the board tackled the issue of rising water and sewer rates. A 50-cent increase in water rates was approved, largely attributed to a 46-cent rate hike by the City of New Bedford, which supplies Acushnet’s water. This decision aimed to align the town’s rates with those of New Bedford while addressing fixed costs.
Similarly, a 50-cent increase was approved for sewer rates, with the town experiencing a 22-cent increase from New Bedford. The relatively small number of sewer users compared to water users necessitates such adjustments to cover fixed costs. The board emphasized its intent to enhance fiscal management and explore potential alternatives, such as collaborating with Fairhaven on sewer services.
