Haddonfield Borough Council Recognizes Veterans, Passes Key Ordinances, and Discusses Shared Services
- Meeting Overview:
The Haddonfield Borough Council convened on October 27, 2025, addressing a range of topics including proclamations honoring military veterans, the adoption of a commercial filming ordinance, and the approval of shared service agreements. The council also discussed holiday season parking adjustments and the solicitation of proposals for professional services for the coming year.
A central focus of the meeting was the series of proclamations presented to honor and recognize military service. Notably, a resident and veteran brought forward proclamations to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy, established on October 13, 1775. This proclamation underscored the Navy’s critical role in national defense and its connection to the Haddonfield community. Another proclamation acknowledged the Marine Corps, founded on November 10, 1775, highlighting its historical significance and roots in the Philadelphia area. Additionally, a proclamation for Veterans Day emphasized the nation’s obligation to support its 19 million veterans, stressing the importance of addressing challenges such as mental health issues. The session also included a proclamation for World War II Veterans Remembrance Month, reflecting on the profound sacrifices made during the war and the contributions of local residents.
This initiative was lauded for its educational value, offering young people the opportunity to learn firsthand from veterans’ experiences.
Following these recognitions, the council turned to legislative matters, notably the adoption of an amendment to Chapter 109 concerning commercial filming. The ordinance was passed without public input during the session. The council then proceeded to approve a series of resolutions under the consent agenda, allowing multiple items to be enacted collectively without separate discussion.
Among the resolutions. One agreement involved the Cherry Hill domestic violence response team, which has been supported by the borough for approximately 15 years with an annual contribution of $2,000. The response team, available around the clock, plays a role in advocating for victims and assisting with necessary paperwork during incidents. Clarification was provided that the borough’s primary participation involves financial contributions and utilizing the service when necessary.
Another shared service agreement discussed was Project SAVE, an addiction services diversion program offered through Camden County. This program, which incurs no costs for the borough, aims to provide alternatives to incarceration for individuals struggling with addiction. The council emphasized the program’s role in supporting individuals before they enter the judicial system.
The council addressed a holiday season parking moratorium, set to suspend parking enforcement from November 28 to December 31, 2025. This measure is intended to encourage shopping in downtown Haddonfield, alleviating financial burdens on residents. However, enforcement of illegal parking will remain active during this period. Discussions also touched on the process of requesting proposals for professional services for 2026.
Public comments provided an opportunity for residents to express their views. A resident expressed gratitude towards the commissioners for their handling of the Halloween celebration and efforts to ensure community safety. The council responded by detailing safety measures implemented, including no-parking signs on Washington Avenue to prevent children from darting between parked cars and the potential closure of the street if crowds became too large.
