Glen Ridge Borough Council Advances Historic Preservation and Approves Electronic Tax Sale
- Meeting Overview:
In its recent meeting, the Glen Ridge Borough Council discussed the availability of a Certified Local Government grant from the Department of Environmental Protection. This grant, which ranges from $15,000 to $50,000, aims to support historic preservation efforts. The council plans to forward the grant application to a consultant for consideration. Additionally, the council authorized an electronic tax sale to improve efficiency in handling local tax sale processes.
The meeting addressed the Certified Local Government grant, which could be used to fund historical preservation projects. In past years, similar grants have been utilized for projects such as creating a guidebook and conducting inventories. The council expressed optimism about reapplying for such projects. This grant opportunity highlights the council’s ongoing efforts to preserve the historical character of the community.
The council also approved Resolution 149-25, authorizing an electronic tax sale. This decision is expected to streamline the tax sale process, making it more efficient and potentially more productive. The online tax sale is seen as a modern approach to handling municipal tax sales and is anticipated to yield positive results for the community.
Further, the council approved several resolutions, including Resolution 148-25, which authorizes the submission of a strategic plan for the Glen Ridge Municipal Alliance grant. This grant, amounting to $900 for fiscal year 2027, is aimed at preventing substance use in the community by engaging residents and local entities.
The meeting also covered updates on public safety and infrastructure. The Public Safety Committee is reviewing various intersections, awaiting reports before any decisions are made. Additionally, PSEG plans to upgrade the electric grid on the south end of Glen Ridge, which may involve tree trimming and removal, as well as accessing residents’ backyards.
Ordinance 1828, pertaining to stormwater management, passed its second reading. This ordinance aligns local regulations with New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection guidelines, allowing for responsive updates without frequent ordinance revisions.
