West Windsor Residents Voice Concerns Over Safety and Infrastructure at Council Meeting
- Meeting Overview:
During the West Windsor Town Council meeting, the discussion was dominated by residents’ concerns over public safety and infrastructure issues, notably revolving around a hunting blind on Farmer Grovers’ property and the impact of infrastructure delays. These concerns highlighted the need for improved communication and timely responses from the township regarding community matters.
Elliot Burgerer, a resident concerned about community safety, raised issues about a hunting blind on Farmer Grovers’ property. He pointed out the blind’s proximity to residential areas, a religious institution, and local schools, expressing concern over the lack of communication about the hunting activities permitted there. He urged the council to implement a notification system similar to those used for hunting seasons at nearby Mercer County Park. Burgerer’s concerns were echoed by Mindy Shedler, who also found the situation disturbing and called for a resolution and better communication regarding safety issues.
Adding to the public safety concerns, Kevin Ronaldelloo raised the issue of delayed speed limit sign installations on Alexander Road. With traffic increasing due to a nearby road closure, he called for timely installation of these signs following ordinance approval. Ronaldelloo suggested additional measures to enhance road safety, such as speed cushions and bike lanes, while also expressing dissatisfaction with the township’s communication on various issues, including sidewalk repairs and welcome signs.
Another major topic of discussion was the infrastructure delays affecting the township. The mayor provided updates on the repaving of Harris Road, which has yet to be scheduled due to ongoing assessments and property acquisition considerations. Residents expressed a desire for transparency and timely updates on such projects, emphasizing the importance of effective communication between the township and the community.
Further infrastructure concerns were voiced by Paul Brown, who inquired about updates on the Clarksville warehouse application with the Department of Environmental Protection and the status of a bridge project. The mayor reported ongoing discussions with NJDOT regarding the bridge’s safety, which remains closed due to structural concerns. Efforts to promote local businesses affected by the closure were also announced, with plans to utilize social media and signage to support them.
During the meeting, the council also addressed various environmental issues, with John Church speaking on the topic of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). He described them as a lesser concern compared to other environmental challenges, referencing common household items that contain PFAS and questioning the allocation of resources to address this issue.
The meeting also featured acknowledgments of community achievements, including the township’s receipt of the Sustainable Jersey Silver Certification and Linda Geevers’ induction into the Elected Officials Hall of Fame for her two decades of service.
In addition to these discussions, the council announced several upcoming community events, including the West Windsor History Museum’s holiday open house, the Buy Nothing group’s regifting event, and the annual Breakfast with Santa. These events highlight the township’s efforts to foster community engagement and support local initiatives, especially during the holiday season.
The meeting concluded with administrative matters, including the introduction of Ordinance 2025-18 to amend township code fees, and a scheduled public hearing for a supplemental watershed plan and environmental assessment. The council also approved a series of resolutions related to financial agreements and service contracts.
