Oakdale City Council Approves Tax Increment Financing District Amendments to Boost Development
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Oakdale City Council meeting, the council approved amendments to the spending plans of two Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, allowing for the extension of tax revenues to be used for development projects until 2027. This decision aims to facilitate projects that would not be possible without the TIF revenues, following legislative changes in 2025. The council held a public hearing to discuss these amendments, and no public comments were made. The amendments will enable the city to allocate tax increment revenues to support eligible project costs, promoting local development efforts.
In addition to the TIF amendments, the council proclaimed November 29th as Small Business Saturday, encouraging residents to support local businesses. The mayor highlighted the economic contributions of small businesses, noting that 68 cents of every dollar spent locally stays within the community. The proclamation aligns with national efforts to bolster small businesses, which are essential to the community’s economic health.
The meeting also included discussions on upcoming community events, such as the city’s first-ever tree lighting with Santa event scheduled for December 4th. This new event, inspired by resident feedback, aims to foster community spirit with activities like a bonfire, s’mores, and holiday music performed by a local choir.
