Fall River Licensing Board Prepares for Show Cause Hearings to Address Complaints Against Ice Ice Out Pub and Lennon’s Package Store
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Fall River Licensing Board meeting, the board made pivotal decisions regarding the renewal and approval of various licenses but notably focused on two establishments facing complaints from the police department. Ice Ice Out Pub and Lennon’s Package Store will both have show cause hearings scheduled for later in December to address these issues before their license renewals are considered.
The board’s discussion centered around the upcoming show cause hearings, which will determine the future of Ice Ice Out Pub and Lennon’s Package Store. These establishments have been flagged for complaints that necessitate a hearing to examine the validity and gravity of these issues. Until the hearings, both establishments will continue their operations but face uncertainty regarding license renewal. The board highlighted the importance of these hearings, emphasizing the need to address public safety concerns raised by the police department. The hearings are tentatively scheduled for December 23rd.
Alongside the issue of the show cause hearings, the board processed numerous license approvals. Among these, several one-day permits were issued for the Golden Gloves boxing event to be held at PLA 31 Franklin Street. This long-standing event, celebrating its 63rd year, received approval for three dates in January 2026, with a contingency snow date set for February 7, 2026. The board’s decision to grant this additional date, despite it not being advertised within the usual 48-hour notice, underscores their support for the event’s continuity.
Another agenda item involved the transfer of an alcohol license for Rio Brazil restaurant and market on King Phillip Street. The board approved the transfer following a positive recommendation from the police department and a presentation by the current operator, who provided details on the proposed hours of operation. The board also approved a transfer of an all-alcohol common victual license for Caldera Restaurant on Pleasant Street.
The meeting also entailed routine renewals, including the review and approval of numerous license referrals for 2026. Discussions revealed potential duplications in entries, particularly concerning New Tokyo Steak Japanese Steakhouse and Tequila Lime Cantina.
In addition, the board approved several beer and wine common victual licenses for establishments such as Mona Lisa Kitchen LLC and Little Chopsticks, alongside club all-alcohol licenses for clubs like the Portuguese Mad Sports Club and the Republican Club. Veterans’ all-alcohol licenses and package store licenses were also approved, barring those with pending issues requiring further investigation, such as Lennon’s Package Store.
The board discussed farmer series pouring permits, including those for Canned Heat Brewing Company and Troy City Brewing LLC. Common victual licenses for several Subway locations and class two auto licenses were also approved.
In new business, an open meeting law complaint was acknowledged, submitted by Mr. Patrick Higgins, regarding an alleged failure to advertise specific event days. The board identified this as a technical violation.
To conclude, the board briefly touched upon a wine tasting event for St. Michael’s School planned for March 7, 2020. The discussion revealed a lack of clarity regarding the event’s application status.
