The solar array is part of Hackensack Meridian Health’s broader sustainability and resiliency initiative, developed in partnership with a major solar infrastructure firm. The project does not require any expansion of the current building footprint, nor does it alter site circulation, parking layout, or operations of the medical center. The solar canopy will be installed atop the existing parking garage.

Donald Frell, a senior vice president at Hackensack Meridian Health, emphasized the selection of Riverview Medical Center for its location, which allows the solar project to proceed without interrupting hospital operations.

Engineer Todd Gill provided technical details, noting that the solar array would consist of 470 panels, each designed to prevent concentrated runoff and maintain existing drainage patterns. The project requires no variances, as the design complies with height restrictions and does not exacerbate any non-conforming conditions.

Brandon Cole, representing the applicant, clarified that the project would not cause visual or glare impacts due to the anti-reflective coating on the panels. The solar installation is engineered to withstand adverse weather, including snow and wind loads.

The board unanimously approved the application, recognizing the project’s potential to contribute renewable energy to the medical center and advance environmental goals. The meeting concluded with no further public comment.
