Hainesport Council Discusses Redevelopment Investigations and Affordable Housing Fund Adjustments
- Meeting Overview:
The Hainesport Town Council meeting focused on the authorization of a new redevelopment investigation and adjustments to the affordable housing trust fund to comply with new regulations. The council also moved to purchase a ladder truck and appointed a school closing guard for the upcoming year.
A key agenda item was the passage of Resolution 2025-174-12, which directs the joint land use board to conduct a preliminary investigation to determine if certain areas, including Martin Highway, Maple, and Spruce, are in need of redevelopment without eminent domain. The resolution passed unanimously.
Another discussion centered around adjustments to the affordable housing trust fund, in response to new Uniform Housing Affordability Controls (U-HAC) regulations. The council amended the withdrawal amount from the fund for properties on Tartan Lane, setting a range between $12,607 and $30,607. This range allows the administrative agent flexibility in negotiating extensions of affordable housing controls. The resolution was framed to ensure that the town complies with the updated U-HAC rules, and the council anticipates ratifying the spending plan by March 15.
Additionally, the council authorized the purchase of a 75-foot aerial ladder truck through a national cooperative with the Houston Galveston area council. This acquisition aims to enhance the town’s emergency response capabilities.
