During his remarks, O’Brien expressed his appreciation for the recognition, stating, “This has been my pleasure to serve this borough,” and acknowledged the dedication of the public servants he has worked with since 1997. Health issues have led O’Brien to retire sooner than planned, but he intends to complete the master plan with the board before his departure.

The public comment section of the meeting saw several members express their gratitude towards O’Brien. A former council member, Tony Perno, shared his appreciation for O’Brien’s guidance and composure during planning discussions, which had been instrumental in helping him make informed decisions. Perno reminisced about their shared experiences since their first meeting in 2012 and extended well-wishes for O’Brien’s retirement.
