In addition to the marina parking issue, the citizens’ forum included passionate advocacy from Teresa Melhot, who urged the council to consider Shaniah Shelton for an education program supervisor position at Hopkins Park. Melhot highlighted Shelton’s decade-long dedication and her ability to foster a positive learning environment for the community’s children. Although council members expressed appreciation for the feedback, they clarified that hiring decisions fall under the city manager’s jurisdiction and encouraged concerned citizens to direct their support accordingly.

The council meeting also celebrated city employee Michael Wager, who was honored as the Employee of the Month for January. Known for his role as a Sexton in Parks and Recreation, Wager has been instrumental in the success of community events, such as the Trail of Terror. His creative contributions and dedication to improving event efficiency earned accolades from both city officials and colleagues.
