Boston Hospitality Partners Seeks Expanded Entertainment License for Downtown Venues
- Meeting Overview:
Boston Hospitality Partners LLC, operating under The Connector, The Collective, and The Vermilion Club on Federal Street, has applied for an expanded entertainment license. This request includes live entertainment categories like DJ performances, karaoke, and up to 19 live performers, as well as the ability to host such events outdoors at Winthrop Square Park until 11 p.m. The application comes after a decade-long development and licensing process, reflecting community input and compliance with city agreements.
During the meeting, representatives from Boston Hospitality Partners detailed their vision for utilizing the space to provide a blend of educational, civic, performance, and cultural experiences in alignment with a cooperation agreement with the city. The plan includes ambient background music, occasional DJ performances, and acoustic acts, emphasizing the intention to offer diverse programming without daily entertainment. The design of the premises incorporates soundproof construction to mitigate noise concerns, and a comprehensive security plan is in development, featuring 49 surveillance cameras.
The outdoor component at Winthrop Square Park, which the applicants are responsible for maintaining, is proposed to host both live acoustic and non-live amplified music. This space currently functions as a seasonal beer garden, and the request to include live acoustic performances is a recent addition to their entertainment offerings. The proposed hours for outdoor live entertainment are from 4 to 7 p.m.
The applicant has engaged with the community over the years, including discussions with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) and local stakeholders. However, a representative from the Office of Neighborhood Services suggested further outreach to the Downtown Boston Neighborhood Association to ensure comprehensive community engagement.
