Little Ferry Students Shine in Young Author’s Contest with Published Book
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Little Ferry School Board meeting, the highlight was the announcement that Little Ferry Public Schools had participated in a pilot program called the Young Author’s Children’s Book Contest. The winning entry, “The Princess’s Great Escape,” was written and illustrated by students Payton Mullen, Anushka Patel, and Luchana McGalli. Their book was not only recognized for its creativity and positive message but has also been fully animated with interactive sound effects and illustrations, and published on Publy’s platform.
In addition to the literary achievements, the meeting covered updates on a significant construction project. The board reported that the new building project is 25% complete and remains on schedule for a 2027 opening.
The superintendent also noted the success of the district’s food service program, which saw an increase in meals served and a resulting profit that will be reinvested back into the program. Furthermore, upcoming changes include plans to move the kitchen from the modulars to a new location, contingent on favorable bid results.
Other points of interest included the recognition of students of the month, highlighting their achievements and contributions to the school community, and a report on the district’s financial health and upcoming budget preparations. The board also informed attendees about the introduction of cursive writing as a requirement for grades three to five, following a new state law.
