Bogota School Board Navigates Snow Days, Celebrates QSAC Success, and Plans CTE Building Dedication
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Bogota School Board discussed a range of topics, including the use of snow days, successful QSAC evaluation results, and plans to name a CTE building after Superintendent Damian Kennedy. The board also addressed issues regarding Lifetouch’s partnership with PTOs and advancements in educational programs.
Superintendent Damian Kennedy detailed the district’s situation regarding snow days. With all allotted snow days already exhausted, any additional days off will result in the extension of the school calendar into the spring break recess. This announcement came as a reminder to parents and staff to remain patient with parking and drop-off challenges, as the district prepares for more inclement weather.
The board also celebrated a positive result from the New Jersey Department of Education’s QSAC review. The district has successfully met all state requirements in areas including instruction, fiscal management, and operations. This marks the third consecutive QSAC success for the district under the current administration. Superintendent Kennedy acknowledged the hard work of the administration team, particularly Mr. Chang and Mr. Fin, for their efforts in maintaining local control and avoiding state oversight.
In addition, the board moved forward with plans to name the CTE building after Superintendent Damian Kennedy. While the board had previously passed resolutions for the naming, they are now forming committees to finalize the exact designation and placement of the names.
The board briefly touched on concerns with Lifetouch, a company frequently used by PTOs for school picture days. Discussions are in progress regarding the company’s leadership, and there is a consideration to update policies that may prevent the use of Lifetouch if deemed necessary.
Educational program updates were also shared, with the board discussing the final year of the Envision Math program and the piloting of the Jump Math program. The Seal of Biliteracy program continues to expand, with an increasing number of students earning distinctions. Grant funding is supporting various initiatives, including STEM programs, mental health services, and adult ESL programs. The board is pursuing additional funding to further enhance educational offerings.
