Winsted City Council Discusses Police Department’s Integration and Community Initiatives
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Winsted City Council meeting, the integration of the Winsted and Lester Prairie police departments was highlighted as a successful collaboration. The meeting also touched upon issues such as community policing initiatives and efforts to address fraud. Routine administrative matters were covered, but a discussion about the police department’s activities and community engagement took center stage.
The police department, now a unified entity serving both Winsted and Lester Prairie, presented a detailed report of its 2025 activities. The department made 38 physical arrests out of a larger number of charges and responded to a notable number of suspicious activity calls. The department’s proactive measures included addressing open doors at residences and assisting in financial exploitation investigations involving vulnerable adults.
The report emphasized community involvement, such as the Coffee with a Cop events, which have been well-attended and foster dialogue on various issues, including fraud prevention. The department is considering partnerships with financial institutions to further educate residents on fraud risks. Additionally, the department plans to unify its vehicle graphics for consistency across the force.
In administrative updates, the City Administrator mentioned the ongoing annual audit, noting the diligent work of the city staff. The Economic Development Authority is developing a city webpage to assist local industries in filling employment positions, a move appreciated by local businesses.
