- Meeting Overview:
The Glen Ridge Borough Council recently convened to bid farewell to outgoing Mayor Stuart K. Patrick who has retired after 16 years of service to the community. The council also welcomed Mayor-elect Deborah Mans and newly elected council members Lori Jean Moody and David Leitz. The gathering was marked by the heartfelt expressions of gratitude for Mayor Patrick, the nomination and approval of Councilor Ann Marie Morrow as the council president for 2024, and the setting of priorities and appointments for the upcoming year.
The meeting commenced with Mayor Patrick expressing his deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve the residents of Glen Ridge, referencing his time on both the council and the library board. The council then moved to honor individuals who had shown remarkable volunteerism and service to the community. Councilor Peter A. Hughes presented resolution 17823, which recognized three long-serving volunteers. This was followed by Councilor Rich Law’s presentation of resolutions 18123 to 18323, and Councilor Deborah Mans’ presentation of resolutions 18423 to 18623, both sets acknowledging the services of notable individuals in various community roles.
A significant moment of the gathering was the presentation of resolution 18723 by Councilor Michael P. Zichelli, which honored Mayor Patrick for his service, particularly highlighting his leadership during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic and a contentious lawsuit over the Baldwin Street site development.
The meeting also served as the platform for the swearing-in ceremony for Mayor-elect Mans and council members Moody and Leitz. The ceremony included the presentation of official pins and certifications, as well as congratulatory letters from Congresswoman Cheryl’s office. The council then proceeded with the regular meeting agenda, which included the unanimous approval of Councilor Morrow as the council president for 2024.
Mayor Mans and Councilor Morrow then highlighted the council’s priorities for the coming year, focusing on enhancing communication with residents, improving pedestrian and bike safety, and supporting the public library amid renovations. The council adopted bylaws for 2024 and confirmed John N. Melisa as the Municipal Attorney for a one-year term. The dates for the 2024 official holidays for borough officers and employees were established, and temporary appropriations for operating purposes were approved.
