Hoyt Lakes City Council Approves Proclamation Honoring Fallen Sergeant Cody Sebert
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Hoyt Lakes City Council meeting, members approved a proclamation to honor Sergeant Cody Sebert by designating March 21st as a remembrance day in his name. The proclamation calls for flags at city facilities to be flown at half-staff in a mark of respect for his contributions to the community. This act aligns with similar gestures by the city of Aurora.
In addition to the proclamation, the council discussed a fundraiser organized by the Hoyt Lakes Fire Department Relief Association. Originally planned to raise funds for the association, the event has been redirected to support the family of Sergeant Sebert. Scheduled for April 11th, the event will feature a burger fry, bingo, and a raffle at the VFW, with all proceeds going to the sergeant’s family. Community members are encouraged to attend and support the cause.
Other topics at the meeting included a discussion on the updated hiring policy for city personnel. Adjustments were made to ensure alignment with current practices and legal guidance, specifically concerning the library’s hiring autonomy due to differing statutes. The council emphasized the statutory differences that allow the library board distinct decision-making capabilities compared to other city departments.
The meeting also addressed concerns about a controversial article published under a pseudonym in the East Range Times regarding the local chicken ordinance. The council reaffirmed its prior decision not to allow chickens in town, with calls for transparency from the newspaper in future editorials.
