Ada City Council Approves Locker Room Overhaul Amid Persistent Moisture Issues
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Ada City Council meeting, a key topic was the approval for significant repairs to the city’s locker rooms, addressing ongoing moisture problems. The council also tackled lighting upgrades across various city facilities, the adoption of financial resolutions, and updates on infrastructure projects.
One notable issue tackled by the council was the condition of the locker rooms. It was reported that the men’s locker room had noticeable damage, with moisture and cracked tiles discovered during inspections. The women’s locker room required even more extensive repairs. To prevent future problems, the council decided to replace the tiles in both locker rooms and implement waterproofing measures. This decision followed a motion which passed without further questions.
Lighting upgrades were another focal point of the meeting. The council deliberated on the transition to LED lighting in various city areas, including the library and racquetball courts. In the library, 36 light bulbs were out, prompting a discussion on whether to rewire existing fixtures or replace them entirely. The council ultimately decided on the more consistent option of fixture replacement for $7,000. Similarly, the racquetball courts will see an LED lighting upgrade, estimated at $4,500.
Financial matters were addressed through the adoption of several resolutions. Ordinance 490, which regulates the use of proceeds from charitable gambling, was adopted without opposition. Another financial matter was Resolution 2026-0401, which allows for the competitive negotiation of a sale for $1.8 million in general obligation capital improvement bonds. The finance officer noted an estimated 3.1% interest rate, which the council aims to secure by May. This resolution was passed with a roll call vote.
In infrastructure developments, the council discussed Resolution 2026-0402, establishing two county state highways within the city. This resolution passed unanimously, as it incurs no costs for the city, with maintenance being the county’s responsibility. Additionally, Resolution 2026-0403, concerning an amendment to a lease mortgage with Benedictine, was tabled until legal counsel provides clarity on potential default implications.
The meeting also saw the approval of the Pine Prairie Drug and Violent Crime Task Force Agreement, following a review by public safety with no objections raised. A new lease agreement from Arvic was also approved, which included a monthly rent increase from $700 to $950, with a termination clause allowing 90 days’ notice.
The Public Works Committee provided updates on mower bids, revealing a decision to proceed with the less expensive and under-budget option from RDO. The committee also discussed the procurement of additional underground wire for ongoing projects, which was approved, and addressed concerns about trees in alleyways that may require removal. A list of alleyways needing work will be compiled, with further legal guidance sought on easement issues.
Public safety discussions included updates on taser procurement and ongoing speed limit concerns near the golf course. The council expressed frustration over the delayed arrival of digital speed signs, which are still pending.
Finally, the council was informed of an upcoming sound bath event at the Deco, scheduled for April 16, from 6 PM to 7 PM. This unique meditation opportunity is part of the city’s ongoing cultural offerings.
