Hammonton School Board Highlights Student Achievements and Prepares for Key Assessments
- Meeting Overview:
The Hammonton School Board meeting on April 16, 2026, featured discussions on student achievements, the upcoming NJSLA assessments, and budget planning.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to celebrating student accomplishments. Dr. Reski from Hammonton Middle School proudly announced the winners of the geography and spelling bees. Philip Graasso earned first place in the geography bee, with Gavin McCormick and Landon Johnston following in second and third, respectively. In the spelling bee, Olivia Kiola secured first place for the third consecutive year, while Thomas Chapman and Jeremy Ryan came in second and third. Dr. Reski also praised the middle school’s sports teams, particularly the spring track team qualifying for the Penn Relays.
The meeting also highlighted successful fundraising and community engagement efforts within the schools. Mr. Morell from Warney Soy Junior Elementary School shared that the school raised $13,935 for the American Heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge. With April designated as autism awareness month, the school plans to sell t-shirts and bracelets to support Camp Sun and Fun, fostering a strong community spirit.
In the realm of educational updates, Mr. Matina reported significant improvements at the high school, including enhancements to the PA system and the expansion of the Blue Devil time program, which now hosts guest speakers. Former student Megan Granon shared her inspiring story with current students. The program aims to enrich students’ educational experiences without detracting from instructional time.
The board also recognized the achievements of Coach Ryan Stagger, named Press of Atlantic City Coach of the Year. His leadership and the dedication of his players were emphasized as key factors in the team’s success. Coach Stagger expressed gratitude towards his assistant coaches and school administration.
Attention then shifted to the district’s preparations for the upcoming Cambian NJSLA assessments. These tests, scheduled in approximately three weeks, are important for evaluating students’ proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. The data collected will inform instructional strategies across the district, emphasizing the importance of these assessments in shaping educational outcomes.
The meeting further addressed budget planning for the 2026-27 academic year. Board members prepared for a detailed presentation at the April 30th meeting, focusing on maintaining classroom funding amidst rising costs. The board expressed appreciation for the administration’s efforts in budget preparation.
In a strategic appointment, Tammy Leonard was acknowledged for her dual role as assistant superintendent and principal of the Early Childhood Education Center. Leonard expressed her gratitude for the board’s trust and emphasized her commitment to enhancing young learners’ educational experiences.
Community engagement remained a central theme, with various school initiatives fostering inclusion and awareness. Dr. Cle detailed the Early Childhood Education program’s celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, where students wore bright socks to promote inclusion. Additionally, a student milestone of being cancer-free for five years was celebrated with a community clap-through event.
