Lawrence Licensing Board Discusses City Rebranding and Reinstates Outdoor Patio Permit Fees
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Lawrence Licensing Board meeting, two topics dominated the discussion: the city’s rebranding efforts and the reinstatement of fees for temporary outdoor patio permits. Santiago Matz, acting OPD director, addressed the board on the need to rebrand Lawrence in order to attract visitors from surrounding areas such as Andover and North Andover. He highlighted issues like language barriers in local restaurants, loud music, and limited menu options as hurdles to improving the city’s appeal.
Additionally, the board announced that fees for temporary outdoor patio permits would be reinstated this year, following a COVID-19-related suspension. The fees, as outlined by a representative from the inspectional services department, include a $100 application fee and $70 per month from April to October, totaling $570 for the season. Establishments are required to apply for the permit via Citizen Serve and comply with regulations such as inspections from the fire and building departments. The board stressed that all furniture and barriers must be removed from city property at the end of the season to ensure compliance with city regulations.
