Fall River Housing Authority Announces New Custodian Hires and Elder Grant Thanks
- Meeting Overview:
At a recent Fall River Housing Authority meeting, discussions focused on upcoming staffing changes and acknowledgments of grant contributions. The Authority is set to hire four custodians to address vacancies and long-term absences, while a significant elder grant facilitated community improvements.
The executive director announced the hiring of four new custodians to replace two retirees and fill gaps left by three maintenance mechanics on long-term injury leave. This move aims to maintain the upkeep and efficiency of housing facilities. Additionally, the Authority is preparing for an audit submission, with key financial personnel collaborating to meet the month’s deadline.
Recognition was given to Deb Moriceet, the outgoing associate director of property management, who is retiring after over 40 years of service. Her career advancement from clerk to a leading role was highlighted, and her contributions to the Authority were praised.
The Authority also expressed gratitude to Representative Allan Sylvia for securing a $75,000 elder grant for fiscal 2025, shared with the city for enhancing elderly community rooms and senior centers. An additional $25,000 grant for fiscal 2026 will support senior activities and events. These funds aim to improve the quality of life for elderly residents and will be partially used for events like senior concerts and cookouts.
In terms of infrastructure, the meeting confirmed the completion of significant projects: a video security system upgrade at Father Defario Village, a boiler replacement at James O’Brien Apartments, and a fire alarm system replacement at Father Vincent Defario Village. Each project was completed within the agreed contract terms and costs. Meanwhile, a change order for site improvements and tree removal at Maplewood Gardens was approved, adding $8,875 to the project for additional tree removals and plantings.
The Authority seeks permission to advertise for bids for a boiler replacement at Nicholas W. Mitchell Heights. Furthermore, a contract was awarded for HUD Inspire Uniform Physical Condition Inspection Services to Midwest Inspections for a sum not exceeding $20,980.56.
