Father Time Celebrates Two Decades of Community Support at Keansburg School Board Meeting
- Meeting Overview:
The Keansburg School Board meeting highlighted the 20-year milestone of the Father Time organization, a community-focused group that fosters connections among fathers. The meeting also covered student achievements, upcoming school events, and important financial updates.
The centerpiece of the meeting was a presentation from Mr. Jeff Johnson, a representative of Father Time, an organization that has been a part of the Keansburg community since 2003. Johnson discussed the mission of Father Time, emphasizing its role in creating meaningful connections among fathers and their families. He noted that the organization has grown over the years and highlighted various activities designed to foster lasting memories. One such event, the fishing derby, was praised for bringing joy and engagement to families not only from Keansburg but also from surrounding towns. Johnson shared, “The response from this town has been like a dream,” reflecting the positive feedback from local families.
Donald Aalano, a founding member of Father Time, spoke about the camaraderie and support the group offers to fathers navigating the challenges of parenthood. Aalano pointed out the shared experiences among members, such as divorce and parenting issues, which create strong bonds. He emphasized the importance of being involved in their children’s lives and how the group provides a safe space for fathers to share experiences and offer mutual support. Another member shared his personal journey as a single parent and how Father Time has been instrumental in providing emotional and practical support, stating, “I am no longer afraid to tell you how I feel,” highlighting the transformative relationships built within the group.
The meeting also featured congratulations from Mayor George Hoff of Keansburg, who commended Father Time for its dedication to supporting struggling parents and fostering community spirit. He highlighted events like the pictures with Santa and the father-daughter dance, in which he has personally participated.
In addition to the focus on Father Time, the meeting included reports from student representatives from Bulger Middle School. Students Chase and Angelita Limkkey provided updates on recent activities, such as the completion of the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment State tests and the performance of the softball and baseball teams. The softball team was noted to have had a playoff game, and the faculty and staff were appreciated during Teacher Appreciation Week with gifts and a special lunch organized by the PTA.
Upcoming events for the eighth-grade students were also discussed, with particular enthusiasm for a recent trip to Medieval Times on May 13th. Students expressed their enjoyment of the experience, waving banners and cheering for the yellow knight. Other planned activities included volunteering at St. John’s Field on May 21st, a memorial walk on May 22nd in honor of Mr. Flippo, and the Butterfield dance on May 30th. The dance would provide an evening of music and food for the 100 invited students, courtesy of the PTA. The excitement would continue with a poetry slam on June 2nd, followed by an induction ceremony for tri-band students and music awards. The annual eighth-grade picnic at Oak Tree Lodge on June 4th would offer students various games and swimming activities.
Financial updates were presented by the school business administrator, including the approval of a $2,000 grant donation from the New York Giants and contracts for services such as occupational therapy and nursing. The board also discussed the renewal of agreements for food service management and health insurance consulting for the 2026-2027 school year. Personnel matters were addressed, with motions made to approve retirements, resignations, and the reemployment of staff. Some board members recused themselves from specific votes due to potential conflicts of interest.
During the public comment section, community members voiced their concerns and gratitude. A parent expressed appreciation for the board’s efforts and the involvement of parents in school activities. Another individual highlighted a recent graduate’s acceptance into medical school, emphasizing the positive outcomes of the education provided by the district.
