Glen Ridge Secures Compliance with Affordable Housing Obligations Until 2035
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Glen Ridge Borough Council meeting, it was announced that the borough is now in full compliance with its fourth-round affordable housing obligations. This compliance was confirmed by a consent order entered by Judge Aldo Russo of the New Jersey Superior Court, granting the borough immunity from builders remedy lawsuits until 2035. The process, which took over 18 months, involved diligent work from various borough officials and consultants, including the borough’s planner and Planning and Development Committee.
Another topic was the discussion on regional efforts to address flooding. The Mayor, alongside officials from neighboring areas and New Jersey’s new Congresswoman Lilia Mahia, emphasized the importance of collaborative planning. The congresswoman recognized flooding as a concern among constituents and pledged to support funding efforts. The council intends to keep her informed about ongoing projects to tackle these issues.
The council also advanced several financial and administrative matters. These included the approval of an estimated tax bill for the third quarter of 2026, which was necessary due to pending finalization of the state budget. The council assured that any discrepancies between the estimated and final amounts would be minimal.
In public safety, the council renewed several retail distribution licenses, including those for local businesses like Ridge Bottle King and Glen Ridge Pharmacy and Liquors. However, the renewal for Mayfield Tavern Partners, which faced scrutiny due to a potential conflict of interest, was deferred to the discretion of the state’s Division of Alcohol and Beverage Control.
Public Works reported successful maintenance activities following recent storms, highlighting the department’s efficient response to tree debris and minor flooding. The council approved a resolution for the purchase of a new Ford F-450 truck to replace an older model, funded through a capital ordinance.
Community affairs highlighted upcoming local events, including a food truck and music gathering and the annual logger run, advising residents of temporary road closures. The council also emphasized the need for advanced planning for the upcoming World Cup events.
