Leah Boschman, a teacher at Tenny Grammar School, was celebrated for her roles as a media and STEM specialist. The meeting also honored Terry Zappla, named both the Donald P. Timony Grammar School Teacher of the Year and the Methuen Rotary Teacher of the Year. With over 20 years in Methuen Public Schools, Zappla was acknowledged for her student-centered approach, addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of her students. Her colleagues commended her dedication, noting her extensive time spent on lesson planning and community contributions. Zappla attributed her success to her colleagues, administrative support, and her husband.

In addition to recognizing teachers, the meeting celebrated outstanding program assistants. Allison Pro was named Program Assistant of the Year for the early childhood center, praised for her patience and ability to build trusting student relationships. Sophia Gonzalez was honored as the Timony Program Assistant of the Year, noted for her dependability and commitment to student success. Both honorees emphasized the rewarding nature of their roles and the significance of collaboration with colleagues and students.

Students were also acknowledged for their achievements. The committee recognized the student media production team for their contributions to managing audio and visual components of meetings. The students, along with their teacher, Mr. Brian Wilkins, were applauded for their hard work and growth in skills, with one student reflecting on the challenges and learning experiences faced during their tenure.

The meeting featured recognition of the DECA program at Methuen High School, highlighting the students’ participation in a national conference in Atlanta. The students shared their experiences, emphasizing the development of social skills, business acumen, and networking opportunities provided by the program. The DECA adviser expressed hopes for the growth of the program in the coming years.

The meeting also acknowledged TaB Asval, a student representative on the school committee, for his advocacy and contributions to the school community. Asval, set to attend UMass, reflected on the lessons learned about community engagement and advocacy during his tenure.

Additionally, the presentation of the SOAR award to a student named Pierre was a focal point. Pierre was recognized for his enthusiasm and leadership in the Food for Life program, particularly noting his passion for cooking and his development of life-saving techniques.
