Bayonne City Council Approves Amendments to 2026 Municipal Budget Amid Public Hearing
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Bayonne City Council meeting, the council approved amendments to the 2026 municipal budget following a public hearing. The budget amendment process was a focal point, reflecting adjustments in various financial allocations, including surplus anticipation and revenue from shared services agreements. The amended budget now includes a reduction in anticipated surplus from $12,100,000 to $12,375,000 and adjustments in special items of revenue, such as the shared services agreement for garbage removal services with the Bayonne Board of Education, which increased from $355,453 to $362,384.64.
In addition, amendments included changes in general appropriations, notably within the solid waste and recycling collections, which decreased from $3,284,375 to $2,849,991. The council also addressed deferred charges and statutory expenditures, increasing the total to $22,628,789.07 from the previous $22,190,520.07. These adjustments culminated in a new total general revenue figure of $173,294,517.41.
The council also handled procedural steps related to the budget amendments, scheduling a public hearing on the amendments for June 17th. Another item discussed was the ordinance to exceed the municipal budget appropriation limits and establish a cap bank. The ordinance was considered for a second reading, but no public comments were made at the hearing.
