Lake Como Residents Demand Action on Persistent Power Outages
- Meeting Overview:
A significant concern was raised at the recent Lake Como Borough Council meeting regarding recurrent power outages affecting residents on 16th Avenue. A local resident detailed how numerous households experienced outages during extreme heat, not for the first time, due to inadequate transformers that fail under high temperatures. The resident urged the council to advocate for them by contacting JCP&L and other relevant authorities to address the infrastructure issue, which has reportedly persisted for over two decades. The council expressed willingness to assist by reaching out to JCP&L and encouraged affected residents to submit complaints to the Board of Public Utilities.
In other business, the council passed a resolution authorizing the execution of a deed of open space easement for Berman Park, which includes dog park and pickleball courts. Another resolution involved financial matters, with the council directing payments to various accounts, amounting to a total of $213,453.98.
During public comments, a resident raised the issue of trash management, suggesting an ordinance requiring lids on trash cans to prevent overflow and scattering of garbage, especially during windy conditions. Another resident highlighted the need for repainting crosswalks on Main Street to improve pedestrian safety, as the current markings have faded and become difficult for motorists to notice.
