Concerns about asset stewardship and the potential for facilities to degrade under lease agreements were addressed, with assurances that their management would ensure long-term accountability and facility maintenance.

Adding to the complex landscape of proposals, a presentation by Mike Bennett and John Hilker, who participated virtually, offered insights into their operational strategies for the golf course, drawing from their experience in Asheville, North Carolina. Bennett proposed a profit-sharing model. He also mentioned a unique fee structure, where a portion of each round’s fee would be directed back to the city for capital improvements.

The proposal by Bennett and Hilker faced challenges due to a lack of transparent financial data concerning the golf course’s current state. Nevertheless, they expressed confidence in their ability to improve the course’s condition and financial performance, leveraging their experience in rehabilitating the Asheville Municipal Golf Course.

In contrast, a local contractor, Jose Salazar, encouraged the council to prioritize using local subcontractors for ongoing projects, emphasizing the importance of supporting local businesses. He also advocated for securing employees dedicated to the golf course.
