Acushnet Council Seeks Approval for Increased HVAC Funding Amid Rising Costs
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Acushnet Council on Aging meeting, the primary focus was on the need for additional funding to address rising costs associated with the HVAC system replacement. The board previously secured an article for funding during the spring town meeting, but delays caused by expired quotes necessitated a request for further financial support. This additional funding has been approved by both the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee and will be presented for a vote at the upcoming town meeting scheduled for October 27th.
Director Lauren Golda expressed optimism about the project’s progress, emphasizing the importance of the HVAC system’s completion and mentioning ongoing efforts to maintain the facility’s roof to prevent further issues. Maintenance efforts have included resealing around ventilation pipes, which have so far prevented further leaks.
Other topics discussed included the organization’s transportation services and the ongoing training for drivers, which includes upcoming defensive driving and CPR certification. The board highlighted the importance of these services and the commitment to maintaining high safety standards. In a spirit of community collaboration, the council opened its doors to Fair Haven’s social day program during their facility’s paving project.
In addition, the council announced several upcoming events and services, such as a community blood drive with the American Red Cross and the Acushnet Police Department on October 29th, and a variety of health and wellness programs. These programs include hearing screenings, nutrition demonstrations, and a support group for loneliness and isolation.
The council also promoted its travel program, featuring various fall trips, and reminded attendees of the upcoming Medicare open enrollment period, offering assistance through SHINE counselors.
