Acushnet Housing Authority Secures Additional State Funding for Security and Accessibility Projects
- Meeting Overview:
The Acushnet Housing Authority announced during its recent meeting that it has successfully secured additional state funding to enhance security and accessibility features in its properties. The authority will receive $259,000 for the installation of advanced buzzer systems and security cameras, surpassing the initial grant of $139,000. Moreover, grant money has been utilized to convert tubs to walk-in showers in ground-floor apartments, improving accessibility for residents.
The state grant will fund a comprehensive upgrade to the buzzer systems at the housing facilities, including installing a new television-based system that allows residents to see visitors before granting entry. Security cameras will also be installed to monitor trash areas, addressing safety concerns. This project is slated for completion by the end of next year, with the state agreeing to cover the additional costs beyond the original grant allocation.
In addition to these upgrades, the authority reported financial stability with reserves increasing to 69.25%, well above the required 30%. This financial health has been attributed to effective management of capital funds and successful turnover of units. Despite a slight budget overrun in the 689 program due to unforeseen maintenance issues, the authority remains in a strong fiscal position.
