Amherst Licensing Board Approves Special Short-Term Liquor Licenses for UMass Events
- Meeting Overview:
In its recent meeting, the Amherst Board of Licensing approved a series of special short-term liquor licenses for events at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. These licenses, which cover performances at the Fine Arts Center and events at the Beler Auditorium and the UMass Campus Center, will allow alcohol sales at these venues for the upcoming season.
The board discussed and approved applications SST-25-40 through 59 and 61 through 72. The licenses will accommodate concessions at fine arts performances and the HTM Marriott meals program, which takes place on the 11th floor of the UMass Campus Center, primarily on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A representative confirmed that these applications were consistent with previous years, and the board approved them unanimously.
Additionally, the board briefly discussed a complaint mentioned in a local newspaper regarding procedural issues with filing and posting certain documents. There was consensus to include a review of this issue in a future meeting agenda to ensure compliance and address any misunderstandings.
They agreed to use a Doodle poll to finalize dates. While there were no immediate major liquor license applications pending, the board acknowledged the need to arrange a short meeting in early September to address a short-term license for the Bandtoberfest event on the common, featuring the UMass band.
