Apopka City Council Reviews Extensive Lineup of Upcoming Events and Approves Crossroads Development Plans
- Meeting Overview:
The Apopka City Council meeting centered around the approval and planning of multiple upcoming community events, including a fair, concerts, and art festivals, as well as discussing the site plans for the Crossroads Kelly Park development’s next phase.
The most notable discussion involved the approval of the Crossroads Kelly Park Phase 3B site plan. This phase is set to include 106 units in the northwestern section of the development. A point of discussion was a nondisturbance easement related to drainage and wall design, which required clarification on its inclusion in the project plat. The non-disturbance easement is to be addressed in the Homeowners Association documents and must be shown on the plat. This step ensures that the structural integrity and necessary drainage solutions are properly planned and documented, allowing the project to move forward in compliance with city standards.
The council also reviewed plans for several special events, including the Apopka Fair organized by the Rotary Club and Apopka Foundation. Scheduled for March, the fair will feature carnival rides, a beer and wine garden, and various vendors at Kitland Nelson Park. It expects to draw approximately 2,500 attendees, and security will be managed by off-duty officers.
Another notable event is a country concert by Dutterman Productions at the Apopka Amphitheater, planned for late May. This ticketed event aims to attract around 1,500 people, with security provided by a private company alongside off-duty officers, and will offer food trucks and alcohol.
The Sunshine Arts Management’s Mural Madness will occur in mid-March, transforming a parking lot on East Main Street into an art festival and competition. This free, public event will not involve alcohol, and the top five artists will have the opportunity to paint murals on local buildings.
Additionally, the Music Fest Orlando at the Apopka Amphitheater has been rescheduled for March 29th. Adjustments were made to comply with the city’s curfew, and the event will feature a private security presence due to alcohol being served.
Lastly, the Foundation for Central Florida Tang Su’s Second Annual Car Show will take place on Fifth Street. This event will require road closures managed by the police department but will not have food vendors or alcohol.
